Catch Up!

Well I have really put off blogging for MONTHS! And I keep wrestling with myself if it is even worth it but since I want to order the book I will back track a little bit...Jake and I both got the whole week off for Thanksgiving so we thought it would be fun to go to Kirtland for a couple of days. We did a lot of church history tours and I could not believe how strong the spirit was there. I loved hearing all of the stories about the amazing pioneers and all that they went through. The Church of Christ was having a service the night we were there in the Kirtland Temple and somehow we were in the right place at the right time and scored an invite. It was amazing to attend a service in the first temple of the church. The sister missionaries sang and they were seated in every corner so it seriously was surround sound... it sounded amazing! They had a bunch of different religious leaders sing or speak and over all it was a very nice service. We definitely enjoyed it! Luckily the last day Jake let me find the closest mall and we spent the afternoon shopping at my favorite stores so that was a score too since Morgantown does not have good shopping!

We had a really yummy Thanksgiving dinner with a bunch of friends from our ward. The food was AMAZING! It was a very relaxful and fun day and we are so grateful we could spend the day with such fun people!

In December we went back to Utah for 2 weeks. We had a great time catching up with friends and family. We were constantly on the go... going to movies, jazz games, skiing, and family events!

I am sad I lost the group shot from Jake's family's ugly sweater party but here are Tatum and Emme's and my ugly sweaters! It was hilarious to see what people came up with!

One of the highlights for me was when my parents took all of us to the Marriott downtown for the night. It was so fun to be all together for 2 whole days and not have any distractions. We stayed busy going to movies, seeing Temple Square, swimming, working out, and of course shopping!! It was a blast!!

Our camera was dead when we went skiing but I made Jake put his one piece back on for a picture cuz it was too funny not to remember Jake flying down the slopes in his tight one piece!!

Weekend Fun!

Last weekend we went to DC to hang out with Megan and her husband Matt. It was one of the best weekends in a long time- probably because the boys allowed Megan and I to shop for as long as wanted! We woke up Saturday and went straight to Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack which is a big deal to me since I haven't been in months! We found some great bargains!

We may have offended some people near us with this picture of Meg pretending to shoot the president... haha awkward!

Then we went to lunch and headed to DC. We were able to tour Ford's Theater. It was so interesting reading facts about all the consipirators and Abraham Lincoln. I usually tuned out in history class so lots of the little facts were new to me! It was a very surreal feeling to be able to sit in the theater where the president was actually shot. We were also able to go on a tour of the house he was carried to and later died in. This of course made us excited to rent the movie "The Conspirators" which is a great movie if you have not seen it yet!! After Ford's Theater we found an H & M and an Anthropologie so again Megan and I were in heaven.Here we are modeling out twinner shirts we got for ten bucks at H & M!

Finally we went to a delicious dinner where they prepared fresh pasta right in front of you any way you like. It was AMAZING!! Definitely my new favorite restaurant! And one of the best parts is when you are leaving they have a bowl of gummy bears you can take a spoonful of! After dinner we went home and played games and Megan made me a delicious birthday cake. The weekend went way too fast I wish we could have stayed longer!!

Weekend Visitors

October has been an exciting month for us! The first weekend Megan and Matt came to stay with us. We had a lot of fun running a race in Maryland and then freezing at the WVU homecoming game!

The second weekend my parents came to visit us and we had so much fun! The leaves were starting to change and so we went on a hike to Cooper's Rock and enjoyed all of the pretty trees. Saturday we had such nice weather for the football game and amazing seats. We ate yummy food the entire weekend and had so much fun hanging out and playing games.

The third weekend Jake's sister Amanda and her husband Chris came to Pittsburgh for the Utah vs. Pitt game. The game was a little bit chilly but the game was awesome and Utah actually won! Friday night we ate dinner at Primanti Brothers... it's been on Man Vs. Food cuz its a crazy sandwich joint with egg, cold slaw, and fries on all their sandwiches.

Then we went to tour the Cathedral of Learning and it turns out it was Pitt's homecoming party so we were totally party crashers and ate their food, played games, and watched a laser show and fire works. It was so much fun!

Last weekend we flew home for Greg and Shelly's wedding. It was a fast packed weekend but it was so great to be there and see everyone! I was so excited because they had their luncheon at my favorite restaurant ever...The Old Spaghetti Factory!! It was delicious! It was such a nice day and everything turned out so pretty! Congratulations you two we are so excited for you!!

This is funny because after Tawni's wedding Jake was so upset that he didn't make it in very many pictures so this time around he was asking for solo shots whenever he could!

The end of the summer...

Well it's a week we look forward to all year long and hate to see it end... Newport Beach. It was so much fun to see all of our family and hang out on the beach. We went to Disneyland on Wednesday and had a blast. I love being at Disneyland because I feel like a little kid again I get excited about everything there! It was such a fun week and we were sad to see it end because now our summer is over and we are back to reality starting school and work next week. At least it went out with a bang!

Jake's sister Tawni got married this summer. It was such a beautiful wedding! Jake was excited because he got to sit next to President Packer during the sealing in the temple. Tawni and Andrew are so cute together and we are so excited for them to be married!!

Graduation Trip

This summer my little sister graduated from high school and I graduated with my Master's Degree so my parents took the family to Maui to celebrate. We had such a great time except the only thing that would have made it better would have been if Jake could have come.One of the biggest highlights of the trip was swimming with dolphins at Black Rock. We were swimming out pretty far because we were hunting for turtles and all of a suddenly Shelly points to a TON of fins that looked like they were surrounding us. We thought they were sharks and so Ang yells, "Head for the rocks!" But luckily Ryan swam over and said they were dolphins and so we swam right up to them and followed them around for about thirty minutes. They were totally putting on a show for us doing flips underwater and we even saw a baby dolphin! It was definitely my favorite part of the trip!Another exciting excursion was the bike ride down Haleakala. We had to wake up at 1 am so we could watch the sunrise! It was freezing but really pretty and fun!

We had a lot of fun playing at the blow hole.We hiked to a waterfall on the road to Hana.

Another one of my favorite things was renting paddle boards one day. We had so much fun paddling around the ocean. We ended the trip by para sailing. It was so windy that it made us a little bit sick but it was fun!

It's Finally Summer!

Jake and I finally both finished school this week! We both had Friday off so we celebrated the entire weekend as much as we could. First we finished moving... YAY!! Then we did every summery thing we could think of... go swimming, get ice cream with friends, go to a Pirates baseball game, have a bbq, go to Cooper's Rock and roast hot dogs and starbursts, play bocci ball... and the list goes on. The truth came out last night why Jake planned such a fun weekend was because he wanted us to miss West Virginia when we go home to see our families this summer! I thought that was so funny!! But we will miss West Virginia it is definitely a fun place to hang out when Jake doesn't have to be studying!!

St. George

My grandparents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last weekend by taking my whole family to St. George for the weekend. I was so excited to just lay by the pool and relax. We had a lot of fun playing games, going biking, swimming, playing tennis, and just hanging out. The only thing that would have made it better would be if Jake could have come too! I really didn't take very many pictures but I thought this one was funny! Alexa has grown up so much and she can be so silly I LOVE it!!

New House

We are so excited we found the perfect place to move! In a little over two weeks we will have our own house to live in! I am way excited to be able to use Jake's bbq, have a yard to garden, covered parking, washer and dryer, and not hear people constantly moving above and below us... and of course getting rid of the brown panel walls!!!

Easter Weekend

WOW! April has seriously flown by... perhaps that is because I only went to school three days this month! We have been so lucky to travel and see family and now we have a little over a month until it's the best time of the year... SUMMER! We drove down to Virginia Beach for Easter weekend to spend time with Jake's sister Kylie and her family. We had a lot of fun Friday playing at the park, decorating easter cookies and going to a battleship museum. My favorite part of the musuem was petting sharks, crabs, and sting rays, it was so much fun! This was Jake's highlight of the trip... picking that lady's wedgie! He posed several times behind her so he could get a good picture with her!

Saturday morning we drove to the Outer Banks (which is a beach Jake and I have wanted to visit since we were first married and living in Virginia Beach we heard it was the best). It definitely lived up to our expectations the weather was amazing and the beach was so nice. We wish we would have worn our swimming suits but we all ended up getting wet even without them. We went to see a lighthouse and then played on the beach building sand castles and flying kites. It definitely got me excited for warm weather and it better come fast!

The next week I was able to go with the gifted students to New York City. We were constantly on the go trying to see everything in three days. We were totally exhausted but had a great time. Some of my favorites were seeing Mary Poppins, going to the Top of the Rock, touring NBC, finding the Kardashian's store DASH, the wax museum, and of course shopping!

Monday afternoon we took off for The Big Apple. We met up with my dad at his hotel it was so great to see him!! He took us to delicious restaurants and ordered enough food for a party of seven we made ourselves sick every night but I loved it because we always finished with an amazing dessert! New York has such great restaurants and we loved trying the new food! Tuesday we all went to the Manhattan Temple. We found a corner bakery and stopped for a snack and I had to take a picture because it was hilarious how crowded all the tables were and how close we were to each other. After dinner we met up with my dad’s uncle for an amazing French dinner (again with all the courses and way too much food!) Wednesday Jake and I went to the Natural History Museum. I don’t love museums but luckily we only had a couple of hours so we were only able to see the interesting parts. We both really enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit and could have stayed there the whole time. After that we shopped on Time Square. We ate at Planet Hollywood and Ashley Tisdale was there to promote her new movie I was so excited! After that we went to the play Mamma Mia. It was amazing I never wanted it to end! Thursday we all went to Ground Zero and walked around Wall Street. We also went to Battery Park where we tracked down the guys who sell fake purses and watches. They were so dramatic and made us meet them around the block because there were too many cops- it was all a big show I felt. But luckily I was a good bargainer and got my watch for 50 bucks cheaper than they wanted! While we walked down Canal Street we were offered all sorts of crazy things but the weirdest was when some guy tried to give Jake weed! I told him he needs to change his image if he looks like the type that would buy weed on Canal Street! Just kidding. Thursday night we headed to the Bronx for a Yankee’s game. It was a great game the Yankee's won with a walk off homerun in the tenth inning. Jake was so excited for the “free baseball!” Friday morning was all devoted to shopping and I loved every minute of it! The week went by way too fast but it was so much fun to be able to hang out with my dad and Jake in New York I hope we make it a new tradition ha!

Spring Break Part 3!!

Friday we headed down to DC to meet Jake's sister Kylie and her family. We thought we had time to kill so we spent the morning shopping at the outlets and taking our time. Unfortunately we got stuck in REALLY bad traffic and our 4 hour car ride turned into over 8 hours!! We were DYING! But luckily we finally made it and it was so much fun to see everyone! We spent Saturday at the different museums because it was raining so hard. We attempted to go outside to see the Washington Monument and the World War II Memorial and got soaked! But it was really neat Jake was able to find his grandpa in the data base from World War II so that was really interesting. We had a fun time seeing the different exhibits and eating yummy food in China Town. I loved being able to hang out with Jackson and Ali they always make me laugh! I had to pose next to Apollo Ono's skates from the Utah Olympics because I was his biggest fan!!

Spring Break Part 1!

Jake’s Spring Break started last week and we decided to party it up as much as we could and we did!! Friday afternoon we took off for Philadelphia to visit my cute cousin and her family. They are so much fun and we love to hang out with them! It felt like we were back in Utah because we were able to just hang out at a real house with family we both absolutely loved it!!

What's in a "Blog"?

Well, since it is my spring break and I have absolutely nothing better to do I thought I would write a little post... As I sit here in my 1970's retro style apartment with wood paneling for the walls and brand new burbur carpet, a huge selling point, I think to myself of the essence of blogging. Why do people blog? I know it is to keep connected, but what is the real reason? Have you ever received one of those Christmas cards that tell you everything from the promotion the dad received to the eagle the son got in scouts? Is that what blogs are? Except not just at Christmas but all year long? For instance most people know that I was a Junior Jazz all-star in the high school ranks. Fact is that I didn't make first cuts in the ninth grade and after coping with the defeat I relished the role of the lesser league. There are times still to this day I think of what might have been. I put on my Jimmer shirt and think of the possibilities if I had only made it to the next cut. But, so is life and reality sets in... I couldn't make a shot outside of 2 feet.

Which brings me to my next point as I think about how I sat freezing in my apartment in the middle of the winter, again in our retro apartment, because the heating coils in the ceiling took an hour to warm and in that hour charged Summer and I 50 bucks. So instead of paying the 50 we lived in a temp around 50. I know we live a luxurious life with the nicest things and the best of everything, just check my blog and you will see them. In real life though we are average Joes trying to get by like everyone else. And the next point is.... I love to hear what is new in the lives of my friends and family, but have to take it with a grain of salt sometimes. Is it all true? Or is it a bit better than the true reality? I'm leaning a little to the latter...

One last little tid-bit for you about me and Summer, if you didn't know already. We never get in fights and we always do what we are supposed to. I am the biggest sweetheart she could ever wish for. Every time she comes home from a long day of work I have everything ready so she doesn't have to do single thing but put her feet up and relax. In fact I think I might be getting an award from Pres Obama because I am the best example of a husband ever... If everyone lived more like me there would be fewer problems in the world....

And reality sets in and we all realize that I am lucky that Summer stays with me because although I am not the worst person in the world, hopefully, I am in no way perfect. Ask Summer, she will tell you. We get by and we love each other, but she is very patient with me….

So I ask people of the blogging world be straight with me. I love to see pictures of you and your kids and here what is happening, but you did not climb Everest, weren't the player of the year in your dodge ball tournament, or the star quarterback of your football team...

Where's Jimmer?!

Yesterday was a great day for both of us! Jake made it on the jumbotron for the first time ever...and I am officially going back to elementary school!!!!! I don't know which one of us was more happy!

Jake called me on my way home yesterday and asked me to get him a poster for the UCON game. When I got home he was waiting outside for me he was so excited!! He thought of several different slogans to use to dis Kemba and praise Jimmer ( Jake is totally obsessed with Jimmer we will probably have to name our first son Jimmer!) He wore his Jimmer shirt and showed off his poster all night! It must have thrown Kemba off because West Virginia won!!

McCall's visit

Jake's sister, McCall came to visit West Virginia! Unfortunately the weather was crappy and we never saw the sun but she still seemed to like it here. We were able to go to a couple of basketball games, out to eat, shopping, and to see a movie. On Monday we all went up to Pittsburgh to tour the Cathedral of Learning. There are 26 rooms that are decorated like different school rooms around the world. We were all really into it for about the first 16 rooms but then I started to fade fast! They were really cute though and some were still decorated for Christmas so that was fun. We absolutely loved having her stay with us and we hope she will come back soon!

There's no Place Like Home!!

We spent two very fast very crazy weeks in Utah over the holidays and I loved every minute of it!! We spent a lot of time traveling back and forth from both families but we tried our best to be fair. It felt like we were constantly go go go since we hadn't seen everyone for a while. We totally partied it up! We went skiing, hung out with friends and family, went to a few movies, lots of shopping, and of course were always eating!!! We didn't take very many pictures - probably because we were playing too hard all the time ha! But here are a few...

Our first night back we went to watch Mallory cheer at a basketball game. I think I look old in this picture but it was too cute of Alexa not to put up. I love this girl she is so stinkin cute!!!

Christmas Morning! Emme is such a goof ball I love to hang out with her!!

We tried to make gingerbread houses one nght with my family but obviously the BYU game was more interesting... That's where Jake's eyes are looking ha!

It's Christmas!!

I am so excited we put up our Christmas tree finally! We left our lights and star for the top at home but it still turned out way cute! I decided we would start a tradition of having donuts and hot chocolate when we decorated our trees. West Virigina doesn't sell yummy donuts so we tried a new recipe that was supposed to taste like Krispy Kremes. Jake was skeptical and kept saying he would rather have popcorn but I was determined to eat a donut... it has been so long! So the recipe said to heat the oil to 350 degrees but niether of us knew how hot that would be on the stove so we just turned it on high. After a few minutes I dropped the first donut in and it instantly turned black. It started smoking and suddenly there was a fire!! The smoke detectors were going crazy and all we could see was smoke! It was pretty intense but luckily the fire went out when I turned the stove down and then we had to open all the windows (even though we were already freezing cold!) and fan the smoke out. The funniest part was Jake had mentioned to our nieghbor that I was making donuts so we would bring him over some and I guess he was getting ansy because right when the smoke detectors stopped he rang our bell and starting asking how the donuts went but just starting laughing when he saw all the smoke. Luckily once the oil cooled down I totally redeemed myself and made the most delicous donuts we have eaten in a LONG time! Our nieghbor was a bit hesitant to try them but after the first bite he stuffed the rest of the donut in his mouth and said he was very surprised at how good they were!

Thankful for Family!

Checking out Cincinnati's campus. It is so cool because it is all right there way compacted! It was raining so we were freezing and took a running tour but what we saw of it was cool!

So we accidentally left our turkey out all day and night so Thanksgiving morning we were pretty nervous about using it but we called the turkey expert aka my dad and he said we should be fine? So we took a gamble and cooked it and it was delicous and luckily no one got sick!!

The FEAST!!

I am so grateful for family especially around the holidays. We didn't get to go home for Thanksgiving but we did get to go to Cincinnati to stay with my cousins and it was so much fun!! We have such funny cousins and we loved being able to hang out with them and their dang cute kids for the whole week! We got there late Tuesday night and when we pulled up to their house Jake started pounding the candy because he felt like his sugar was low and he kept saying he did not want my cousins to see him with his sugar low. We go inside and start to chat and I realize Jake's sugar is low so my cousin starts making some juice and I give Jake his tester. Jake of course denies it and will not drink anything he just keeps insisting that he is fine. Luckily he drank a capri sun but it did not seem to work and Jake kept getting more crazy. He was wrapping his arms around my cousin and winking at him telling him his sugar was not low- in a slow way with a weird accent. He then tried to chase the two year old. He was making everyone nervous because he was acting so wierd and I could not control him. He was jumping and snapping randomly then he would run over to my cousin and wink at him. Their girls were getting nervous and we could not get him to drink anything. Suddenly Jake hands me his wedding ring, shoes and socks and takes off running out the front door into the pitch black. I tried to hold on to him but he was too fast and he was around the corner before I knew what was happening! My cousin was ready to call an ambulance because we could not control Jake but luckily when we went running outside there was Jake walking back WAY embarrassed yelling that this was more embarrassing then being a BYU fan and then he admitted his darkest secret... he is now a Utah fan! Haha obviously he was still out of it but he did drink another juice and then he was fine! It was so funny!! We had a delicous Thanksgiving dinner and loved just relaxing and playing games with family! We are so grateful they invited us to share Thanksgiving with them!

Two Tickets to Pittsburgh

We had so much fun this weekend partying it up! Friday night we went to the WVU basketball game. It was only an exhibition game so they totally killed the team it was fun!

Then Saturday we woke up and drove to Pittsburgh. We went site seeing and then of course hit the mall. It was so much fun to be able to go shopping again it feels like its been FOREVER!! After the mall we went to look around the university and we saw some really pretty cathedrals.

But the very best part of the entire weekend was always coming home to this fun piano that I got for my birthday!! I absolutely love it and I always want to play it. One of our favorite features on the piano is the different sounds we can set it to. Our very favorite is the laughing because each note has a different laugh and it is so entertaining!!

My dad came to visit us for the weekend! It was so much fun to be able to have my dad all to ourselves and just hang out! This is definitely a benefit to living out of state because usually my dad is very busy with work or chuch stuff that we never get to just hang out for the entire weekend back in Utah. But since we were in West Virginia there were no meetings or appointments my dad had to go to so we could really party it up! I loved not having to share him with anybody! On Friday we rode the PRT (a wierd car with no driver) downtown for dinner and an art walk. I was so excited for the art walk but it turned out it was a bit of a bust. Most people were just there to get free wine and so it was over crowded and not very good art pieces. So we went home and played the Wii and watched BYU get killed... GO AGGIES! It turns out my dad is quite the gamer- which we never knew- and killed us in Wii basketball! Saturday we woke up early and went to the student rec center and played racketball- which again he killed me in! Then we went on a hike to a lookout where Jake became adventurous and tried to climb in between rocks only to get stuck becuase he couldn't move his hump in his back. I could tell his sugar was going low and he could not move. I was pretty panicked especially when the rock he moved to broke off and tumbled down the cliff but luckily he made it out eventually. It was so much fun to have my dad in West Virginia and show him our stomping grounds!

Weekend Getaway

One good thing about living back east is that we are so close to so many cool attractions. Every third week after Jake's test we love to plan a weekend getaway to relieve some of the stress.

This weekend we went to DC to stay with my old roommate Megan. Friday afternoon right after Jake finished his test we headed for DC. We picked up Megan and Matt and headed to Georgetown to eat dinner. It was a really cute area with tons of shops and good places to eat. Unfortunately it was late so all of the shops were closed and we were too hungry to wait for a table at the restaurants so we ended up eating at Johnny Rockets, but it was really good!

Then we went to the Pentagon Memorial. I didn't even know there was a memorial there but it was a really neat garden. It had these water fountains categorized by the age of the person that died on 9/11. They went from youngest to oldest and had the names of the people on the concrete design. They were facing opposite directions depending on if the person was on the plane or in the Pentagon. I was amazed at how creative and detailed the garden was set up.

Saturday morning we woke up early and headed for the DC temple. I LOVE the DC temple!

It is so huge!! It is totally hidden in the hills and trees until you are literally there. After the temple we went to the holocaust museum. It was something we really wanted to do on our honeymoon but they always ran out of tickets before we got there. It was really interesting but a little bit too depressing. It literally made us sick. Near the end I just wanted to leave but luckily they had ended on a postive by showing all of the people that helped the Jews and how many people they saved. After that we went to lunch and then headed to the Eastern Market. I loved being able to hang out with my old roommate Megan again! We had so much fun and I am glad we live kinda close so we can hang out again soon!

Labor Day Fun!

We had such a fun Labor Day weekend in Pennsylvania! We went to visit my cousin Shannon and her dang cute family for the weekend. They werwe so much fun to hang out with! We played games and ate amazing food all weekend long! On Saturday we went to Philadelphia to see all of the historical sites. Everything is so old there it is amazing! We saw the Liberty Bell, City Council building, the oldest church, Benjamin Franklin's house and oldest post office, and a museum with portraits of presidents and George Washington carved out of wood. We then ate a Philly Cheese Steak in Philadelphia! What are the chances right? I was too nervous to try a philly cheese but since we were in Philly I decided to get a chicken cheese steak so I could still say I ate a philly cheese! We were so hungry and they were so good that I forgot to get a picture before everyone was almost done but I wanted to prove that we really ate Philly Cheese Steaks in Philly ha! On Sunday we hung out and played with the girls it was so much fun! It totally reminded me of my family growing up because they have four girls too and they all love playing together in the playroom exactly like my family used to do. Monday morning we woke up and went boating in the Susquehanna River. The water was so nice and warm. We had a ton of fun tubing crazily behind the boat.

Jake was always bugging Sammi on the tube!

We then went and hung out in the Burrow by their house before we had to head home. It was such a fun weekend and we are so grateful to have such a fun family living so close to us!

First Week of Medical School

Jake’s first week of medical school was a piece of cake…literally! He took a cake decorating class where he learned how to make gorgeous flowers out of icing. So gorgeous in fact that he would not let us eat it right away I had to admire it and when I accidentally knocked it over in the container I thought he was going to cry because his beautiful flowers were ruined! But luckily then we got to eat them and it was way yummy! He also went fly fishing and got to know the people in his class better. The best part of the week was when he finally agreed to let me give him a hair cut!! I have been begging him since we got married to let me cut his hair but he has never trusted me. Now that we are out here and there is no hair schools he has decided to let me become his barber. I was really nervous because he was glaring the entire time lecturing me on things I had no idea about- I had never cut someone’s hair before besides freshman year and both of those hair cuts were HORRIBLE so pretty much I was clueless. But luckily it turned out amazing! I found a hidden talent that may turn into my side job ha! Here is the new hair cut!!On Friday they had the oath ceremony. Jake was really nervous it was going to fill up quickly so we walked up there about an hour early only to find out the doors weren’t even opened yet. By the time they opened the doors it was me and one other family so I had my pick of seats- good thing we went so early! It was a really cool ceremony awarding each student with a new stethoscope symbolizing the weight they now will be carrying as a med student. Then each student signed their name in the oath book promising to be the best physician they can be. I was so proud of Jake this ceremony pointed out again just how cool it is to be accepted to medical school! When they announced Jake’s name they also said the university he graduated from and when they said Utah State the whole crowd gasped! They couldn’t believe how far he came to go to WVU. Most students were locals or from neighboring states so it was pretty cool to be the student from the farthest state.

Here are his new friends...On Saturday our neighbor invited us to his lake house in Maryland. It was only a forty five minute drive and we were up in a beautiful mountain with a ski resort and a huge lake. We went on a really fun hike by a river and we were able to try some natural water slides on the rocks and jump off some high rocks.

It was crazy how warm the river water was compared to Utah river water. It was like swimming in bath water -we loved it! We then went to the “cottage” (I got in trouble because I kept calling it a cabin but I was always corrected that it’s not a cabin! ha) and had hot dogs and corn on the cob. It was such a fun night! I think we are really going to like it out here!

On the Road...

So I was absolutely dreading the 1900 mile car drive across the country but it actually wasn’t that bad! It started out rocky in Parley’s Canyon where our truck over heated and we literally were going 15 mph up the hill. That lasted about forty five minutes and we were really worried for the long trip we had ahead of us but it never overheated that bad again so that was good! A few hours later in Wyoming we blew out two tires on the trailer!! It was in the middle of nowhere and it was really really hot. The people said it would be about an hour until they could get to us to help us. It was really hot and miserable and we were starving because we hadn’t stopped for lunch yet but luckily they fixed it really fast and we were good to go again! So the first day was pretty long… Jake wanted to drive 900 miles that day and I think we only did about 500. The next day I begged Jake to take a detour so we could go to Nauvoo… I know crazy that I wanted to add more time but I wanted to do one thing fun on our road trip! So we take the huge detour and pull into Nauvoo at about 9. We met a couple missionary from Cache County and they were so excited we were from Logan that they told us to get in their car and they would drive us around. They drove us to all 7 hotels in Nauvoo to find a place to stay for the night but there was nothing available. They wanted us to stay on their couch but we felt awkward so we said we would be find but they kept insisting on helping us so finally we agreed to park our huge budget truck there and then drove our car across the river to find a hotel there. We were striking out everywhere we called except one place that was only $30 a night. Obviously it had to be ghetto but we didn’t have a choice so we drove out to it. It was totally DISGUSTING! It reeked of smoke and had holes in the mattress, stains on the sheets, crap all over the walls and shower, and no light bulbs! Jake went to get a refund we were thinking the couples’ couch looked pretty good about now but the man would not give him a refund. He showed him 5 other rooms that were all about the same - some worse. Finally he showed us one that at least didn’t smell like smoke so we stayed there because we were exhausted. It was totally disgusting and we didn’t touch anything. I got our beach towels and blankets out of the trunk to wrap around the bed so we didn’t have to touch it. Luckily we survived the night and got out of there as fast as we could!

It was totally worth it because Nauvoo was amazing! I wished we could have spent more days there because there were so many cool things to see but we went around a few tours in the houses then headed over to Carthage. It had such a strong spirit and we felt very close to the trials the saints had to go through.

When Jake and I were dating this is the only picture he had of him on facebook and I always made fun of his hands so I had to do the same thing! We were supposed to stay in Greencastle that night with a couple from Jake’s mission but they called us when we were on the road and told us they had the flu so we just kept driving. When we got to Ohio there were no rooms available again because they were having the State Fair. We had to drive another half hour and find another dump. But it really was a fun road trip with good songs and a great book on tape! Plus we were never hungry thanks to the great treats provided by the moms!! And now we are officially West Virginians!!

Newport Beach!

One of my favorite family traditions is the week my grandma takes all of us to Newport Beach. It really is a week in paradise where we get to hang out on the beach, play in the ocean, ride bikes, and hang out with the entire fam. It was a bit cooler this year making the water even more freezing cold. It felt colder than the ice water we were drinking! We all made it a goal to get in at least once a day even if we were freezing. It was always worth it when we got in because we had so much fun- but we didn’t last long!

The famous Wahoo Fish Tacos-we can't go to California without Jake wanting a smelly taco!We had a ton of fun riding our bikes to Huntington Beach and shopping the sidewalk sales so much fun in fact that when the boys went to the Angels vs. Boston game the girls headed back to Huntington. At night we would go to Balboa Island to ride the ferris wheel and hang out. On Wednesday we headed to DISNEYLAND- the happiest place on earth!! We had a blast going on all the rides. It was especially fun because it was Alexa’s first time to the best place ever. She loved the tea cups and It’s a Small World. She would dance to the music and point to the different dolls especially her favorite - Ariel. She loved it so much that when it was over Christian asked if we could go through again for her and they let us! It was an awesome week and we are already on count down for next summer!!

HAWAII!!

So a few months ago Jake found a killer deal to Hawaii and somehow I convinced him we should book it! We were hoping it was going to be a celebrating trip that Jake got into med school and as it got closer Jake began to wonder if it was smart to go or if we should just cancel. Luckily we decided we needed to celebrate anyways since it was our second year anniversary so we went and had a total blast!! We went to Oahu first and headed straight for the beach! We went to a Hanaumu Bay which was a national park for snorkeling. Jake found four turtles in about fifteen minutes it was awesome! The turtles were definitely our favorite thing to find while we were snorkeling. The next day we went to Pearl Harbor. We got there before it opened but we still had to wait 4 hours to take the ferry ride! It was a very somber experience.

I was getting a little grumpy because I wanted to be at the beach 24/7 so I was nervous for the PCC but we had a blast. We got to make fish out of leaves and take a canoe ride and see a luau.

Here is the beautiful Hawaii temple. It was closed so we just stopped by on our way to the PCC. This is when we hiked the crater in Oahu! Then it was time to head to the best island MAUI! Jake was a little skeptical because this was his first time to Hawaii and he was expecting it to look more tropical but he still loved it with me! We went snorkeling a ton in Maui and then spent our nights shopping in Lahaina and walking through the art galleries. One of our favorite places to snorkel was when we took the boat ride out to Molokini and Turtle Town. The water was so clear and we saw so many fish and turtles and huge things that looked like sting ray that were pretty scary! We also saw a bunch of eels and coral snakes that seriously looked like they were going to attack me! One of Jake’s favorite day was the road to Hana. It was a way windy road that was pretty scary but we stopped and cliff jumped at the seven pools and hiked to different water falls and played at the black sand beach. I was so mad because this was by far the prettiest part of Maui and of course we forgot to charge our camera so we only got three pictures of this road trip before our camera died it was a major bummer! We loved Hawaii and can’t wait until we get to go back!

WEST VIRGINIA!!

So it's official we are moving to West Virginia baby!!! Yesterday we were flying home from Hawaii and planning the things Jake needed to do to reapply for medical school this year because we had pretty much given up hope. But during our lay over in San Francisco a doctor from the medical school called Jake. Of course Jake didn't answer his phone because he never answers numbers he doesn't recognized but he immediately checked the voicemail and we both about freaked out!! He couldn't get a hold of the doctor before our flight left but luckily the head of admissons talked to him and offered him a spot at their medical school!!! It was kinda funny because we had been flying all night so we hadn't slept very much and we were pretty out of it and the lady asked Jake why he didn't sound very excited! But we were WAY excited practically screaming and dancing on the airplane!! We can't wait!! I am so proud of Jake for getting accepted to medical school I knew he would because he has dedicated his ENTIRE life to becoming a doctor and nothing can stop him! I am so glad he is one step closer to completing his dream! Good work Jake!!! I can't wait for West Viriginia!!!

Wednesday night I went to the Backstreet Boys concert with my family. Jake thought he was too cool to come so he totally missed out because we had such a BLAST! It was my most favorite concert I have ever been too. They all looked so good and danced and sung all of my favorite songs. Here are Backstreet Boy's BIGGEST fans! Yes my dad is included as a biggest fan because he has been to four concerts as well!! Thursday we went to Lehi Roundup with Jake’s family. My favorite was the saddle broncs and bull riding. Jake said he loved steer wrestling usually but I don’t think anyone was able to wrestle the steer so it was kind of boring. But it was a fun night to celebrate McCall’s birthday. Friday morning we drove to St. George with my family. It was a fun trip. The boys played golf while the girls laid by the pool. We went on lots of bike rides and played tennis once the sun was gone. It was really really hot down there! My grandparents and Christian’s favorite thing to do is to play CRAPS. So my grandpa agreed to drive his truck to St. George so they could bring the CRAPS table. Every night we had a huge game night with treats and poker chips. We all love to play with Christian’s official poker chips. Christian gets way into it with his Dealer’s visor and stick for gather chips. It cracks me up!

Alexa was so dang cute the entire trip! I loved playing with her every second I could! She is such a happy girl who loves her sweets just like the rest of us!!

Ephraim!

I have been DYING to go to Ephraim to see my grandma. We have tried to go down several times but it has always fallen through at the last minute so finally last weekend I ended up going down with my family while Jake ran Ragnar. He had a lot of fun and ran really FAST!! We had a blast in Ephraim as well! We made it down in time to see the Mormon Miracle Pageant. I had never seen it before so I was way excited. I thought it was pretty good but kinda long to be sitting on metal chairs in the cold. But we had fun. The next day we went up to Community Lake with all of the cousins to go fishing and have a picnic. It was so fun to ride four wheelers and be in Ephraim's beautiful mountains with my family. It felt like I hadn't been there forever!!

SPRING!

A quick update since it has been forver since we have last blogged. In April we went to Sun Valley with Jake's family. We had so much fun ice skating, shopping and swimming! The highlight of the trip was watching the skiers trying to skim over a pond of water. It was amazing that all of the little kids could do it!!

Jake graduated in May. His whole family came up for the celebration. Now we are just waiting to hear back from a medical school so we can get on with our lives! Right now it is between Vermont and West Virginia. Jake won't let me say where I want to go because he thinks a med school might see this and affect their decision... paranoid I know! But anyways we really will go anywhere!!

Finally this weekend my mom and Kristal came to visit my classroom and play kickball with them. They all totally worshiped Kristal! After school we took Alexa to feed the ducks. She was totally fearless and wanted to go in First Dam with them but Jake and Kristal were scared the geese would attack! We had a lot of fun playing with her I wished they lived closer so we could hang out all the time!

April Fool's!

Happy April Fool's Day!! I absolutely love this day for some reason!! I think it is because I am the only one that plays jokes on people and I never get punked! But today Shelly came to school with me and we played one of the best punks on my students ever! We got them all pumped up for a pirate's scavenger hunt that we had prepared for them. They were so cute and excitedly running from clue to clue. Then at the end they found a note taped to a bunch of grocery sacks that said, "Good job you found your prize! Everyone can have a grocery sack! Happy April Fool's Day!" Haha Shelly and I were honestly dying we were laughing so hard because their faces were priceless!! Everyone was grabbing a bag and anxiously searching through it in hopes there might be something in the bags. Some kids were gathering up as much bags as they could and they were really excited about it! But the best was the kid that came over to us with total disgust and said, "What the CRAP!?!" Which just made us lose it more. They soon started laughing with us once I told them I really did bring them a treat for their prize but I just wanted to trick them for a minute. So it wasn't completely mean but it was seriously so funny!

SPRING BREAK!

Over spring break we went to California. We had so much fun! The only down fall was that we had to drive but luckily I got to experience all of the things Jake said I missed by flying… like that amazingly huge thermometer, and, and, and that’s about it! So hopefully I won’t have to drive again for a while since I experienced that. We were able to go to the LA temple on Thursday. It was such a gorgeous temple and really fun to see the different murals. By the time we got out the session it was getting late so we went to the closest beach we could find which was Santa Monica. It was not that great of weather and a rent a cop even made fun of us in our swimming suits. But to us it was fun to just sit on the beach and play paddleball. Friday was one of my favorite days because we went down to Newport and Huntington Beach. This has to be one of my favorite spots in the world! We went to get a famous donut from Newport and ate it on the pier. Then we went over to Huntington to shop and hang out on the beach. It was such a blast!! That night we went to Hollywood to see the stars and eat dinner. Jared’s brother, Jeff wanted Thai so we wanted to check out a few places to see where we wanted to eat. But at the first restaurant there was a cute boy that literally chased us down as we were entering another Thai restaurant he then escorted us back to his restaurant. It was so funny it totally made our night!
Saturday was so much fun because we got to go to Disneyland!!! It was way busy but we kept running from fast pass to fast pass so we never had to wait in line that long. We were able to go on all of our favorite rides and
eat the best food ever! I seriously love Disneyland and I am so glad we got to go!!

I Have the BEST Family Ever!

We have had so much fun in school the last few weeks! My mom and Mallory came and read a story about a gingerbread baby and then we all got to decorate the cutest gingerbread cookies and eat them! We had so much fun! Then since we were training for out Turkey Trot we had a mile race. The kids were so excited for the race, they were sure they were going to be able to beat my mom and Mallory! But Mallory came in first upsetting a lot of the boys! Me and my mom were not too far behind her putting up a good fight! The kids are always so dramatic during the mile run we always have a few in tears and a few lying in the path refusing to stand up because they think they will throw up blood! Haha I have come to the point where I just ran past them and tell them they can wait on the bench. They jump up excitedly and run to the bench to cheer everyone else on. They are SO dramatic! But all of the boys had crushes on Mallory and they kept staring at her and telling her that “their friend” thinks she’s hot! Haha it was a little disturbing but mostly cute! They can’t wait for them to come back and visit us again!

Today my dad came to talk to the kids about turkeys. Everyone LOVED him! They even commented on his nice shoes! Haha the things they notice! We had fun talking about the different boy or girl turkeys which I learned are called toms or hens. And only the boys gobble the girls just click! The best part was when he brought out the different samples the students were so excited it was as if they had never eaten turkey before! He then spoiled them by giving each of them a stuffed turkey toy, turkey pencils and pens! Obviously every student LOVED him and after he left they kept telling me how lucky I was that I had such a nice dad!
I am lucky for having such a nice family to come and hang out with me and my class! We love the visitors!!

So I have found a new addiction.... my niece Alexa! I seriously crave being with her more than I crave chocolate and that is saying a lot!! I always want to be with her and make her smile and laugh. She is so dang cute and I love her to death! This week Jake had to go down to stay with his dad so my family came up to visit me and my class. My class also fell in love with Alexa every girl had to take a turn to hold her, and when it came time for them to leave I had one girl hysterical because she did not get to hold Alexa. (Don't worry I ran her over to the car so she could hug Alexa goodbye causing Shelly to be late for her meeting in Logan and my mom to run a red light!)

It was really fun to have my family come up and play with the kids we played a giant kick ball game which was probably more fun for the adults than for the kids but we ate popcicles at the end which made everyone happy!

After school we went to Cafe Rio and ate our salads at First Dam. Alexa loved to feed the ducks and a few times she about went in the water after them! It was so much fun to have them come up.

CHRISTMAS TIME!

Last night was my school Christmas party. It was really fun! My first gift was a shave me Barbie which was hilariously disgusting. It had a brown mustache, beard, arm pit hair and really hairy legs! But that got stolen fast! Jake’s first gift was a huge gold bowling trophy. But that got stolen fast too, the rumor was it had real gold plating!! Jake’s final present was the best though, A man that moons people when you pump up this football! It was a pretty funny party! Some of the funniest comments made were about a hot pink top with tassels on the boobs. All of the men thought the tassels were HOT!!
After the Christmas party we tried to take a picture for our family Christmas card. We are too big for our little tree so we gave up! One of my students saw this picture on my computer and said, “Teacher you look HUGE compared to your tree!” Definitely not sending this out then!!

The Thanksgiving break was so much fun!! We went out to Colorado to visit Kristal and Christian and Alexa one last time before they move back. As usual the drive was terrible, me and Shelly about drove Jake crazy with our lovely singing. I was especially excited to go to Colorado because I had not been since Alexa was born and I really wanted to see her room and all of her clothes! Her closet was of course ridiculously organized, separated by age and then color! It was so much fun to see all of her cute clothes and I dressed her in the cutest outfit ever! Thanksgiving was really nice, Jake was set on playing football with everyone even though we sent him and Christian to play it all morning with some of Christian’s friends. So the guys and me and Shelly were the only ones brave enough to go out in the freezing cold. They tried to have us run real plays but we really had no idea what was going on so we would just run at each other and hit and try to tackle. They finally gave up on us and just tried to teach us some plays and have us practice them. It was pretty much a joke but it was fun! We also went to see Twilight. It was really good but apparently I am annoying to sit by in movies because I can’t whisper but I wanted to explain the parts of the movie that they left out so Jake would enjoy it better! I don’t think it made much of a difference though it was just a chick flick to him! The rest of the weekend was just relaxing. We became obsessed with guitar hero, trying to win Christian more songs. We also discovered the battle mode in guitar hero. I loved it so much better because I actually stood a chance at winning! We had such a fun weekend down in Colorado but I am so glad they are moving here soon so I will no longer have my Alexa withdrawals!

Second Grade!

The reason I have been such a slacker on blogging is because we lost our camera cord for the computer and also I have been so busy with school. Anyways I can't even believe it but the first trimester of school is over! It has seriously flown by! I have had so much fun I absolutely love teaching! One of the highlights so far has been when Shelly and Addy decided to bring me donuts for my birthday. The students were so excited for visitors they were drawing pictures, writing notes, and making origami for them all day! But somehow Shelly and Addy ended up in Mendin or something and I had no idea how to help them find Garland. So they kids were all panicked and worried about them. One little girl even started crying! So when Shelly and Addy finally did make it it was during lunch time and so we were just hanging out in my room eating our donuts and seriously it felt like the whole school had to come and stare at the "hot girls!" They all had crushes on Shelly and Addy and we could not get them to go outside and play. Shelly and Addy were so awkward they wouldn't even talk to the kids but they still loved them!! Anyways we had a fun party eating donuts and making turkeys. And now the kids ask me every week if they are coming back. But we have fun on our own. On Friday we sang the Princess Pat song and they all loved it!! Well except for one boy sat down near the end and said he was too embarrassed to finish. I loved it though! Anyways I have a lot of homework to do... One month til I graduate I can't even wait!

So I have been procrastinating to write a new blog because so much has happened since the last one that I was feeling a little bit overwhelmed. So I am just going to skip ahead to the honeymoon! The wedding was so much fun...best day ever! Everything went perfectly and I absolutely loved it! We got to DC just in time for the fourth of July and so we went into town early to watch a parade. Then we went to a few of the museums and ate dinner while we waited for the fireworks to start. We almost gave up on the fireworks because it was raining like crazy but this lady talked us in to waiting it out and luckily the rain stopped just in time! The show was amazing! It was the longest and biggest fireworks show I have ever seen! This was definitely my favorite fourth of July! The next day we got up early to go to the DC temple. I was seriously shocked when I saw it poking through the trees, it is the biggest temple I have ever seen and it is gorgeous!! This was my favorite part of our trip because every other activity we were pretty stressed about making it on time and going to the right place, and even though we were late for the session we had planned on going to it was great to be able to sit and calm down and relax. I now know why people take relaxing honeymoons because its too stressful being in charge of a busy trip for your first trip, even finding a restaurant to eat at gave us stress! After the temple we went to Arlington Cemetary and it was huge! Jake was fascinated by the tomb of the unknown soldier we stayed and watched the guards march around forever! Then we went to this Showboat play and dinner buffet. It was fun, there was only old people there so we felt a little bit out of place but we liked it. Sunday was our last day there and so we went on a trolley tour that dropped us off at all of the major sites you must see in DC. We saw most of the major things like the Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, White House, Capitol, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, Union Station, Portrait Museum, World War 1 and 2 Memorial sites, Washington Monument- Jake loved the Washington Monument we seriously have about 20 pictures just of the monument from around the city! and the Smithsonians, and other historical things I had no idea even existed, but what we both really wanted to see while we were in DC was the Holocaust Musuem amd by the time we made our way over there they told us we were 45 minutes too late! They had ran out of tickets to take to tour. So we were only able to look around a couple of rooms that really just made us more bitter that we could not see the whole musuem. Then we decided we wanted to go up in this bell tower that was would show us the skyview of the whole city. On our way there we spot a Ben & Jerry's ice cream so of course we have to stop and we just relax for a minute and by the time we walk over to the bell tower they tell us they closed 5 minutes ago! We about died! But we did have a ton of fun and we loved DC! And now we just have an excuse to go back because there are a lot of things we still need to see! Oh and I added these last two pictures just to point out that yes we are both mature enough to be married!!

Crazy Virginians!

So, I've been here in Virginia for about a little over a month now and it never ceases to amaze me the crazy people I run in to. Just yesterday I spoke to a gentleman who swore up and down he didn't need home security because he was personally responsible for the protection of the Vice President of the United States. He couldn't tell me which VP he was over protecting because I doubt he really ever was.

To cap the day off I decided to knock on one more door just after 9 o'clock becasue Summ said if I sell 13 this week I get to see one of her bridal pictures. I ended up selling the guy and on what i don't exactly know cause he really didn't care for the security aspects. He wanted to go to bed so i hurry and told him everything and he left me with his 80 year old live in to finish up paperwork. I finished up and instead of scheduling the job for another day i told her it was going in that night. She said there was no way she was going to let anyone come in and disturb her while she watched "GOD LIVE", a tv revival. To make sure the techs could get the job done I sat and watched "GOD LIVE" with an 80 year old lady for about 45 minutes. She was amazed that the preacher on the tv, who was covered in tatoos and screaming at the top of his lungs, could heal so many back problems and cause so many to faint. I was amazed that I lasted the 45 minutes! All in all it was a rewarding experience for both of us.

Time keeps slowly tickin and I can't wait to be back in Utah. I miss Summ like crazy and can't wait to bring her out here with me.

Jackson Hole!

So last week I got to go with my dad to Jackson Hole for a food show. The drive seemed very long and unbearable to me but then Jake kept reminding me that he drove about 8 times farther than that and they wouldn't even take breaks under 5 hours and so I guess my five hour drive was alright because we stopped to get treats almost every hour. That was the best part of going on a business trip with my dad was the treats and food. We went out to eat three times a day and got to eat at all of the fancy restaurants and order appetizers, drinks, desserts, and anything else we wanted I loved it! The food show was pretty fun too I basically went trick or treating for food. They had really good bread and cookies there. I went back to the bread table so much that the guy gave me four huge loaves of bread and three other loaves that I could bake when I got home. It was kind of embarrassing carrying all of the bread but I loved it! After the food show we went to see the movie Baby Mama and it was really funny. We were almost the only ones in the theater because I guess Jackson was in between seasons so most of the restaurants and movie theaters were closed. It was kinda nice having the whole town to ourselves so we could get into the restaurants we wanted without a wait! It was a fun trip and I am glad I got to go with my dad! Now if only he would take me to New York with him next week that would great!
